I didn't start out to be
a teacher (process):
Although I was a good student
in high school, I lacked direction and motivation to succeed in college.
After
a little more than
a year of school, and less units than that, I dropped out and started
a series of jobs in security, printing, and pest control to support my young
family. I eventually found myself feeling unfulfilled
in many areas of my life. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single
step. Along the way I found myself back in school where I earned a
degree in mathematics and a teaching credential from California State
University, Hayward and, now, a Masters of Arts in Educational Technology
from California State University, Sacramento. I had worked as a private tutor
during my undergraduate studies and found that students responded well
to my instruction and parents enjoyed the results. More significantly
for me, I found the "aha's" of a student understanding something
for the first time more rewarding than any job related event I had previously
experienced. I began to feel that I was, in fact, a teacher.
I began teaching math and coaching softball at Logan
High School in Union City and then continued at Sheldon High School in
Sacramento,
where I continue in both of these passions. I have been privileged to
be mentored by great teachers and coaches in my budding career and I
have been honored with some
great
students
and
players. Without the support of my tremendous wife and three children (twins just joined us this past
year) I could never have acheived the completion
of this program.
I strongly feel that God has called me to teach and
He has blessed me in following that calling. Without Him, I am nothing;
with Him, I am all that He has prepared me to be. |
